M1A M14 - Sadlak Industries
In 2002, the Marine Corps Weapons
Training Battalion in Quantico, VA
evaluated our titanium scope mount and
spring guide. The NCO in Charge, at that
time, SSgt Raymond A. Conrad wrote,
“Both pieces showed a good finished
product. The spring guide fit our springs
and positively held the magazines. The
overall tolerances of the scope rail were
good and we did not have a problem
adjusting to zero.”
Our Brookfield-type scope mounts are a
positive 3-point design that allows removal
and re-assembly without losing zero. The
Picatinny-style rail is machined to Mil.
Spec 1913 and provides universal scope
mounting. Our titanium mounts are made
from an aerospace-quality hot-forged billet
(limited production), not from a casting or
plate. It is tougher and stronger, yet weighs
40% less than steel. It has a 26-30
Hardness Rockwell C (HRc) and has been
surface coated for a non-glare, matte-black
finish. This coating increases the surface
hardness to approximately 80 HRc, adding
to its corrosive and abrasive resistance.
The steel mounts are made from stress-
relieved 4142 bar stock with a hardness of
28-32 Rc. The finish is Mil. Spec. black
manganese phosphate. All mounting
hardware, fasteners, and hex wrenches
and detailed instructions are included.

National Match Gas Piston
Our precision pistons are made to the exact GI
specifications with all critical dimensions
individually inspected. The 420 stainless
material and heat-treating operations are both
certified to assure quality. Two versions are
available: Polished & Coated. The polished
pistons have a highly polished surfaced using
a non-contact electro-polishing method that
maintains tolerance on the critical diameter
and does not “round–over” the edges on the
grooves. The coated piston is first polished
then hard coated with a gold colored Titanium
Nitride (TiN) finish. This coating, often used on
machine cutting tools, helps reduce galling and
pitting and holds up better to the high heat and
abrasiveness of gunpowder and primers. The
resulting effect is a smoother action an
improved life of the piston and cylinder.
National Match Piston Alteration
We now offer an alteration to the above
pistons that adds a .030/.040 wide groove
running along the piston axis on the large
diameter. The groove runs through the gas-
port hole for the purpose of equalizing the gas
pressure for a smoother more consistent and
accurate action. The groove is ground to the
actual GI national match drawing #9352724.
The original GI drawing for the standard piston
is #7267047 which does not specify a polished
finish or the groove.

Clarification of What is National Match
The military originally reworked standard M14 rifles into sniper rifles
using the specifications and drawings developed for national match
competition. Therefore, when first introduced, the military’s M21/M25
sniper rifles were actually their national match rifles.

National Match Spring Guide
Our National Match Spring Guide improves the
consistency and smooth motion of the
operating rod which help reduce wear and

The grooved piston is intended to be used in competition shooting
events with higher weight, lower velocity loads. Bullet weights less than
168 grain and muzzle velocities in excess of 2400 fps may result in
improper cycling of the rifle. Factory .308 loads may not cycle properly
with a grooved piston installed in the rifle. The grooved piston is
intended as a substitute for an adjustable pressure gas plug, not for
simultaneous use with one.
